TAC Rally : Belgian VW Club - FinishHistory has been made! For the first time ever, a Volkswagen car has won the first event of the Rally Championship of Belgium. The win was signed by Freddy Loix and Robin Buysmans behind the wheel of the Polo S2000 entered by the Belgian
VW Club for the TAC Rally at Tielt.
"A big TAC attack!" Freddy Loix had warned, determined to score maximum Championship points on the narrow and bumpy roads of the Tielt region. The man from Limburg stayed true to his word, coming out on top six times over the 15 disputed special stages.
"I admit that I'm very happy with the result," recognized Fast Freddy at the finish line. "With René Georges' team, we have developed the car well since Ardenne Bleue in February. She has been through an important weight-loss program. With 25 kilos less, she is more nimble coming out of the directional changes which are quite numerous in this rally."
Freddy and Robin pushed their professionalism even further, each also losing two kilos in body weight. "It wasn't easy however," Loix joked. "I practice many sports and my physical condition is very good but I still managed to lose some weight. We now stand rewarded."
Equal competition with different-powered cars
Freddy then went into post-race analysis mode. "What is good to see is that we were constantly playing at the same level as Larry Cols before and after his mechanical problem. That means we will be pursuing this struggle elsewhere.
This Championship seems to be boding well, especially since we will have better engine mapping for the next race, the Wallonia Rally."
The winning driver then spoke about the car that took the first Belgian
VW victory. "The
Polo S2000 is a gem," he said. "She has an extremely performant chassis. I can delay my braking periods to the maximum and, in long curves, the Volkswagen car places itself ideally. A great feast."
Freddy's modesty brought him however to forget a 'detail' : his top speed and his incisive steering allowed him to overtake a WRC and a 'big' Group A outfitted with a turbocompressed engine… Two racing cars which, on paper, show higher levels of performance.
In winning the TAC Rally, Freddy and Robin not only succeeded in accomplishing the first victory of a
Volkswagen car in the Rally Championship of Belgium, but they also now share the Championship leadership with Larry Cols.
"This victory and this first place in the provisional Championship standings are good for the troops' morale. Rendez-vous near Jambes, at the end of April, for a Rally Wallonia which looks promising."
