Mexico : OMV Kronos Citroen WRT - PreviewFor the first time this year the OMV Kronos Citroen World Rally Team will travel overseas. Rally Mexico is the fourth round of the championship and the first event of the season to be held on gravel.
The OMV duo Manfred Stohl
and Ilka Minor will compete without team-mates this time around but due to the new regulations they can score in the manufacture ranking.
Stohl can finally compete once again on his favourite surface, gravel. Last year he was able to take third place and therefore the 34-year-old Austrian is very much looking forward to the event.
“It definitely is going to be very interesting," said Stohl. "I am especially curious as to the relative strength on gravel. In any case, I am prepared for everything. And your self-confidence is obviously very high when you know that you've already reached the podium here."
One decisive factor in Mexico will be the altitude. The rally takes place between 1,500 and 2,700 metres above sea level. Calculations show that the engine loses approximately one percent engine power per 100 metres altitude difference.
“That doesn't bother me," Stohl continued. "It is for the engineers to worry and, besides, it is the same for all teams."
Stohl however starts the rally without having tested on gravel as per regulations.
