South Eastern Queensland in 2008
Last weekend was the final edition of Rally Australia organised in the Perth region, Western Australia.
The 2007 World Rally Championship doesn't include the Australian event but the return of the OZ Rally has already been confirmed
The new event will be held in South Eastern Australia, within 50-km of Brisbane. A 15-year agreement is confirmed for this new location and the FIA is scheduled to carry a safety inspection in November.
ICQ Rally Events Australia Pty Ltd is the promoter of the event and Garry Connelly has been confirmed as the Chairman of the Organising Committee.
"The promoters consider that it is viable to run the event without Government support,” said ICQ Director Ron Brown.
"All decisions about the event - including whether there will be a trial event in 2007 - will rest with Garry."
"In fact, it is not necessary to have a trial run,” explained Colin Osborne, President to CAMS, the Australian federation. “Many of the key officials will be those who have run the successful events in Perth and so far as the FIA are concerned, this is a relocation of the current event, not a new event.”
