Australia : Syms Racing Team Subaru / PCWRC - Finish
Aki Teiskonen's Rally Australia ended on the penultimate stage where he drove off the road. Teiskonens car was damaged in the accident, but he and his co-driver were unharmed.
“There was a curve after a small hill.
We flew a bit off the driving lane from the hill and hit the outer bank and went into the bushes at the speed of 160,” said Teiskonen.
Before driving off the road Teiskonen was second in the PCWRC series and seventh overall. He was only 13 seconds behind Jari-Matti Latvala, who led the series. Despite the accident Teiskonen ended fifth in the PCWRC and 11th in the WRC series.
“Of course this is annoying, especially since I had a hold on eight PCWRC points. I was still looking for a win, because Latvala was so close. You´ll never get anything if you don't try. This was the outcome this time,” said Teiskonen.
“It's the downsides of the rally. When something goes wrong, it's usually the end of the game,” added Teiskonen.
The last rally of the PCWRC series is driven in New Zealand three weeks from now. Teiskonen will start in fourth place, since Mirco Baldacci passed him and rose to third place.
“This car is no good for driving anymore. I hope we'll get a new vehicle before New Zealand,” concluded Teiskonen.
