OMV, Europe's leading crude oil and natural gas group, is for the first time sponsor of a special stage of the FIA World Rally Championship.
Beside the OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team, the OMV CEE World Rally Team in the PCWRC, the
OMV Junior Project in the JWRC and the main sponsoring of the OMV ADAC Rallye, Rally Cyprus will also be supported this year.
The naming of the Down Town Stage taking place on Sunday, September 24, 2006 in Limassol (Lemessos) will complete the commitment of OMV in international rallying.
3,24 kilometres through Limassol
Rally Cyprus can boast of a veritable audience hit in 2006. The 23rd and last special stage will be held as a 3,24 kilometres long super stage in the heart of Limassol on Sunday (24.9) at 14.05. The OMV Down Town Special is the perfect rounding off of the international motor sports commitment of OMV. Additionally to its usual rally coverage Eurosport will broadcast the OMV Down Town Special live from 14.05 to 15.00.
“Super stages are the ideal platform to bring rallying directly to the fans. I am sure that the OMV Down Town Special in Limassol will be an absolute highlight of this year's World Championship,” says OMV driver Manfred Stohl, who is currently fifth in the WRC championship standings.
“The organisation of super stages offers the opportunity for live coverage to TV stations worldwide. This is extremely important for any kind of sport. This year it has become the standard at most events. We gladly support the increasing popularity of rallying since it also reinforces our international presence,” explains OMV head of sponsoring Brigitte Mühlwisch.
