At the wheel of his Subaru Impreza
The 17th North Cyprus Rally, organized by North Cyprus Touring and Automobile Club (KKTOK) got underway on 21st of July with the Zet Pist super special stage.
Ercan Kazaz with his Subaru Impreza WRC won the opening stage followed by
his main rival Hyundai WRC driver Cem Aytac. The real action started on Saturday with the running of 7 gravel special stages, (one stage cancelled due to safety reasons) total of 92 kms as the competitors has been up for the challenge with the rough stages and very hot weather conditions around 40 45 degrees.
Ercan Kazaz set 5 fastest times out of 8 special stages of Leg 1, as he tried to get used to the conditions on his first ever event in North Cyprus. After encountering a mechanical problem on SS5, Kazaz started the after noon stages 33 seconds behind Hyundai WRC. The Subaru Impreza WRC driver closed the gap in 2 special stages and took the lead on the final stage of Leg 1. Cem Aytac had to retire from the event on the closing kilometres of the last stage as he went off damaging his Hyundai.
Ercan Kazaz set 3 fastest times out of last 4 stages of the event on Sunday, and won 17th North Cyprus Rally 3 minutes 23 seconds ahead of Ortac Cetiner in a group A8 Mitsubishi Evo VII.
The STRT driver celebrated his first ever win in Cyprus with his crew and rally fans. We managed to collect the points we lost in Hitit Rally. I believe championship will be decided in Bursa Rally.
Our Subaru Impreza WRC performed perfectly under hot weather conditions. I would like to thank all the rally fans who came to the stages to support us.
The Subaru Turkey Rally Team leads Manufacturers Championship as Ercan Kazaz takes back the lead after his win in North Cyprus.
After his retirement in Hitit Rally, Ercan Kazaz entered North Cyprus Rally according to teams plans and compensated the points he lost in Ankara. Kazaz collected 16 points in Cyprus, which puts him back on top on drivers championship leader board, 11.50 points ahead of Volkan Isik.
