Another step towards Mitsubishi's full time return?
Mitsubishi recently confirmed that three Lancer WRCs will be at the start of Rally Finland (18-20 August), the tenth round of the World Rally Championship.
The first car will be driven by Aisa-Pacific Champion Jussi
Valimaki. The Finn recently finished ninth at the wheel of the Lancer at the Acropolis Rally.
Daniel Carlsson will drive the second Lancer. The Swede last competed for Mitsubishi in a round of the World Championship in his home event, where he finished in an impressive third place.
The third Lancer will be in the hands of Juho Hanninen, who previously won first place in the Group N class in Sweden and in Sardinia.
Mitsubishi has a tradition of success in Finland.
The Japanese manufacturer won its first World Rally event in that country with Mikael Ericsson in 1989 and clinched four more victories with Tomi Makinen between 1996 and 1999.
MMSP's Operations Director John Easton is hoping for more wins in the future, with more time devoted to the development on the Lancer: "Development is coupled with homologation, and this is coupled with active participation of the company in the WRC."
