Pescarolo driver splits the Audis...
It was something of a working weekend for some WRC runners at the weekend as the attention turned to the 74th running of the Le Mans 24hrs.
WRC points leader Sebastien Loeb
was taking part his second endurance event, teaming up with
Super Aguri Honda racer Franck Montagny and sports car veteran Eric Helary at Pescarolo Sport. Stephane Sarrazin meanwhile was busy with the Aston Martin team, running the 009 car (James Bond numbering) alongside Pedro Lamy and Stephane Ortelli.
With a crowd of 235,000 in attendance, Loeb and his team finished second behind the all conquering Audi R10 driven by Emmanuelle Pirro, Frank Biela and Marco Werner.
"I feel a lot more tired after completing Le Mans than after a rally," Loeb said.
"At a rally, at the end of the day you know you can go to bed, relax and get back to form…”
“But I feel very privileged to have been given the honour of driving the car with the chequered flag dropping. That was a great feeling. I think we did the best possible job in the car considering that we finished between the two Audis. I'd say it was the perfect result for us."
Sarrazin meanwhile enjoyed a strong race with Aston Marin until clutch problems intervened. He was able to finish the event however and was classified in tenth position.
