"I will really enjoy this event"
Fresh from an emotional 2nd overall in the JWRC Rally Sardinia young Zimbabwean rallying hotshot Conrad Rautenbach heads for Greece, for yet another rough round of the World Rally Championship.
For this event Conrad will swap his
regular Junior World Rally Championship steed, a Renault Clio S1600, for a 2006 specification Subaru Impreza N12.
The reasons behind this are twofold. As well as desiring to gain more gravel experience in the Subaru, a car in which he contests the British Rally Championship, Conrad is also keen to compare his performance against the contenders in the Production car World Rally Championship.
Conrad admits to having lacked time in the Subaru ahead of the opening round of the Tescos 99 Octane British Rally Championship but was still reasonably happy with 10th overall and the honours of being the first foreigner at the finish.
A week later the young Zimbabwean then drove one of his most mature drives to date by battling the rough conditions of the Sardinian round of the world rally championship to bring his Geoff Jones Motorsport run Renault Clio home in 2nd place to claim his 2nd consecutive podium in the Junior World Rally Championship. This great result has elevated Conrad, and co-driver David Senior, to 4th in the standings with half the season still to go!
Conrad is under no illusions about the task ahead of him on the Acropolis Rally. ďI am tackling this event with an open mind. Although we competed in the Acropolis last year, the route has changed completely, but if the roads last year are anything to go by, I will really enjoy this event.Ē
Conrad has a lot of experience when it comes to rough events, having competed in the African Rally Championship at the wheel of a Toyota Corolla 1600cc a few years ago, but this will be his first really rough event in the Subaru.
