Sardinia : OMV Junior Team - Leg 2Aaron Burkart and Tanja Geilhausen (Citroen C2 Super 1600) also completed the second day of the Rally Italia Sardegna to the satisfaction of Team Manager Jürgen Bertl.
The OMV duo lies in very good seventh place in the FIA Junior
World Rally Championship after two thirds of the rally. This in spite of a slight slip on special stage ten, which fortunately didn't cause any damage to the car. On Sunday the 23-year-old German plans to score points for the second time this season.
Sometimes it's hard to brake
It wasn't an easy day for OMV Juniors Aaron Burkart and Tanja Geilhausen. After all, they wanted to confirm their sensational fourth place from the day before. Which meant that they obviously wouldn't take full risk but rather try to find the right mixture between speed and caution. And it worked quite well for the OMV Junior World Rally Team – except for one slight slip on special stage 10 which cost almost 1:30 minutes.
But they still reached the finish of leg two as seventh of 17 Junior-teams. Burkart: “It was extremely difficult. Sometimes you just want to put your foot down and these are the moments when you have to be very disciplined.
SS 10 showed me how fast the game could be over. But I'll do my all to secure this result right to the finish and win one or more WRC points.”
Patience can be a key to success
Jürgen Bertl is still highly satisfied with his protégé's performance. Aaron Burkart remained calm even when the wrong set-up was chosen on the morning of day two. “He acted like a pro and kept his cool. We tried a new set-up which eventually didn't really fit the course. These are moments when one has to remain calm. I'm sure that Aaron will score points for the second time in a row this season. Which would be a top achievement, considering this rally and the top-notch competition," explains OMV Junior Team Manager Jürgen Bertl.
