Sardinia : OMV Junior Team - Leg 1Aaron Burkart and Tanja Geilhausen (Citroen C2 Super 1600) are the team of the hour at the first day of the Rally Italia Sradegna. The OMV duo lies in sensational fourth place in the FIA Junior World Rally Championship after six of 18 special
stages.
The tactics devised by Team Manager Jürgen Bertl were followed to the letter: clever driving, risking no tyre damage and staying on the road – the headstone for success. What remains is to defend this result for it is still a long way to go to the finish on Sunday.
An incredible feeling
Aaron Burkart is on cloud number nine. The 23-year-old OMV driver probably gave the best tactical performance of his motor sports career on the first day of the Sardinia Rally. The congenial duo Burkart/Geilhausen lies in sensational fourth place after six of 18 special stages. This in spite of the fact that the Junior WRC boasts of a top field of 17 teams on the Mediterranean island. Burkart: “It is incredible. We had a great feeling throughout the day but this result tops all my expectations. Now we must avoid getting too high-spirited.
For this time around everything is possible.“
Proud of the OMV Junior
Jürgen Bertl had a broad smile on his face. The OMV Junior WRT Team Manager had devised the tactics on Thursday evening. Simple but effective: no risk, avoid tyre damage and stay on the road under all conditions. And Burkart listened closely. Bertl: “It is a joy to see how Aaron followed all instructions to the letter. And he got his reward. I'm extremely proud of him. And success brings self-confidence. If he keeps on like this the rally could be the highlight of his young career.“
