An impressive result by the Italian
Gigi Galli achieved a first-rate performance in Rally Argentina. Only in his second rally at the wheel of the Peugeot 307 WRC and his first one on gravel the Italian finished in third place, his first career podium result.
performance will surely ignite the passion of the tifosis, who really enjoy rallying although no Italian driver had finished on the podium since Piero Liatti in 1998.
Galli talked about his race during the press conference that followed the event: I was focused on my goal not to make a mistake and to reach what I wanted since a long time. What can I say more? We decided we don't push too much because I couldn't understand the car. I didn't make any test before, so all of the time I was being smooth.
The Italian had a trouble-free race, both with his driving and the Peugeot 307: I could keep good pace and then we didn't make any mistake: no spins, no stalls, which was great for me. The company was maybe a little bit fast, with some crash coming, but for me, for us, it's something great.
Galli wanted a good result in Argentina but didn't expect to finish on the podium: To be honest, yes, I couldn't imagine the podium. I know there are a lot of great crews and I couldn't imagine to have that.
I know Argentina is a very tough rally as we see but that, I couldn't imagine.
The next round of the World Rally Championship will be Galli's home event, Rally d'Italia Sardegna. Gigi will be hoping for a good result... and maybe another podium! Of course yes, we start with that goal. It's quite difficult to say, of course, it would be the best of us. Hopefully I can keep good experience for the testing in Argentina and to drive more quickly from the first stage.
As for the rest of the season, nothing is decided after the Italian round of the championship. I don't know, I hope the result can help us go for some more events and I would like to be confident, but I don't know. There are a lot of things which have to be gelled together, concluded Galli.
