Marcus Gronholm in the lead on Thursday evening
Argentina : SS1 & 2 - Super Special
The 2006 edition of Rally Argentina got underway this evening with the Super Special stages.
Unlike last year, the Super Special stages are now held in Cordoba's soccer stadium.
Petter Solberg set the pace in the first run on the
2.20 km course, beating Sebastien Loeb and Marcus Gronholm by 03 and 05 respectively. Gigi Galli (4th), Xavier Pons (5th) and Manfred Stohl (6th) were all less than two seconds from Solberg's performance.
Marcus Gronholm went even faster in SS2, beating Solberg's SS1 performance by five tenths of a second to take the stage victory. The Ford driver is followed by his teammate Mikko Hirvonen (2nd), Chris Atkinson (3rd), Petter Solberg (4th) and Sebastien Loeb (5th).

After these two timed events, Marcus Gronholm is the overall leader. The Finn's advantage is 18 over Petter Solberg in second position. Mikko Hirvonen and Sebastien Loeb share third place with an identical cumulative time, followed by Gigi Galli in fifth position.
