Argentina : Kronos Citroën WRT - ShakedownSebastien Loeb
and Daniel Elena experienced problem-free recce. As expected with the change of season for the rally, the reigning World champions have found road stages covered in a thick sand and gravel layer. This announces a
long ‘sweeping' session during the first leg.
On the recce, Xevi Pons hit something with the rear left wheel at the start of the ‘Las Bajadas' stage (SS16) and had to finish the two days session with the spare 4 wheel drive vehicle. Dani Sordo and Marc Marti have recceed the whole rally route with a 4X4 after their recce car broke down.
For the shakedown Thursday morning, competitors had a little surprise : the stage had changed its location since the publication of Rally guide 2.
Originally situated in the area of La Calera, 11 km NW of the single service park, the stage remained however around the same place but moved from the North to the South of road 55. Once again, it wasn't very representative of the event's stages.
Starting early as usual, Sebastien Loeb
completed two loops. By that time, he realised how much the dust in suspension in the air considerably reduced the visibility. “Even with a three minutes interval in between the cars, the dust cloud remains very dense. Apart from that, I'm very happy with the car's set-up. I simply noticed some understeering in the tight corners.” Seb' drove one more time through the stage to check that everything was in order.
Xevi Pons did the same as his team-mate.
First two successive passages. “This dust is really not nice and even a bit dangerous,” explained the Catalan driver who however felt very much at ease with his set-up. He finished his session with a last run where he didn't suffer from the dust.
For the privateers, including Dani Sordo, the shakedown which usually starts at 10.30 was brought back to 9:00. The Junior World Champion benefited from a cleaner road than his team-mates. “There are still some loose gravel, especially in the tight corners.” Dani is happy with the car and he will just ask for some fine-tuning on the launch control. Once more a last lap allowed him to check everything was right.
There is no ceremonial start in Argentina. The rally begins tonight with an appetizer : the actual start of the event is at TC out service park. The competitors will head towards the Cordoba stadium for two successive passages in the Super special stage.
