France : Lyon-Charbonnières - Finish
Just like last season, Nicolas Vouilloz clinched the victory in the Lyon-Charbonnieres Rally, winning the battle against Patrick Henry.
At the wheel of his Peugeot 307 WRC, Vouilloz finished the first day with a lead of around 20 seconds
over Henry in his Citroen Xsara WRC.
While Vouilloz has a lot of experience with his car, Henry had only a short 60-km test with his Xsara prior to the race and it showed during the first day. However, Henry picked up the pace on day 2 and took four stage victories, nearly matching the number of stage wins of Vouilloz during that leg (five for the Peugeot driver).
“I had some pressure at the end of the race,” said Vouilloz. “I had to make sure I didn't make any mistakes. I hope this win will lead to a better season than we had in 2005. With the Peugeot 307 WRC, team BSA and the Michelin tyres, we have the package to do a great season!”
David Salanon finished in third position despite losing a lot of time on the first day. Salanon was third after the first three stages but he then dropped to ninth. Still as determined, Salanon pushed very hard his Peugeot 206 WRC to make his way back to third on the second day of the race.
Cedric Robert (Renault Clio) dominated the Super 1600 class, taking most of the stage wins in that category. His teammate Yoann Bonato finished second in class after achieving solid stage times throughout the race.
