Switching from gravel to tarmac
The individual quota for drivers entered in the Manufacturer 1 and 2 championships is 75 tyres, of which a maximum of 50 may actually be used (rally + shakedown). Two tread patterns are authorised. The tyre nomination cut-off date is March
Ensuring tyres are inflated to the correct pressure is essential in rallying, and especially so on asphalt. Before starting a stage, the drivers adjust their tyre pressures themselves as a function of the air temperature, the type of stage (abrasive surface, twisty, etc.) and tyre management tactics. Optimum pressure at the start = performance early in the stage. Under-inflated tyres at the start = performance in the latter part of the stage.
Back in action
Several drivers will be making their return to the WRC in Catalunya, including François Duval (Skoda/BFGoodrich, 2nd in Catalunya in 2005), Alexandre Bengué (307/BFGoodrich), Gilles Panizzi (Skoda/BFGoodrich), Jari-Mati Latvala (Ford/BFGoodrich), etc.
Following Sweden (won by P.G. Andersson), Catalunya is the second round of the 2006 Junior World Rally Championship. The event also marks a return to world rallying for the 2003 JWRC champion Brice Tirabassi. BFGoodrich is a partner of the JWRC.
g-Force Profiler g-Force Profiler '2': a medium compound, for temperatures of between 10 and 15°C. Variants of this compound include the '2-' and '2+' . The pattern of these tyres can be re-cut in case of damp conditions or to help them reach their ideal working temperature more quickly.
g-Force Profiler 'Humid' g-Force Profiler 'Humid normal': medium compound, for temperatures of between 8 and 12°C. The pattern of these tyres can be re-cut as a function of how much water needs to be cleared (up to 20 litres per second).
In particular Rally Catalunya's fast flowing corners and prolonged hard cornering – calls for exacting steering precision and swift response from tyres. The objective is to minimise the response time between the moment the driver turns the steering wheel and the moment the wheels react to his instructions.
