Sweden - Podium finish debut for Czech Ford National Team
Rally Sweden 2010 was the first event for newly formed Czech Ford National Team. And it was really successful debut. Reigning Junior World Rally Champion Martin Prokop with his co-driver Jan Tomanek and with Ford Fiesta
S2000 finished on the podium in S-WRC category and what's more, Saturday evening they won one of the special stages in overall classification!
Sunday morning was not completely trouble free for Czech Ford National Team. Broken jack complikated tyre change between SS17 a SS18 and the Czech crew was late in to time control. Martin Prokop got 10 sec penalty, but fortunately it didn't affect their third position in S-WRC overall standings.
On Sunday, the Rally Sweden 2010 continued with further five special stages, with a total length of 101.05 kilometers, running twice the SS Rammen (21.87 kms) and Varmullsasen (23.41 kms) and single run through SS Lesjofors (10.49 kms). Czech driver started the final leg with bigger gap behind the second Janne Tuohino with another Fiesta S2000 and also with good advantage ahead of Patrik Sandell on P4. So the main target for Martin and Jan was to defend third position in S-WRC classification and score valuable points. In tough competition they successfully fulfilled this objective beating some of strong Scandinavian drivers and started well into the season in which they want to fight for podium in Super 2000 World Rally Championship final classification.
Martin Prokop: "Today morning we had small problem between stages, when I got out of the car to change the tyres and the car fell down off its jack. I wasn't sure I would get to SS18 to start it in time, but finally we managed it only one minute later and got only 10 sec penalty. But then it was another good day. Lesjofors stage was really beautiful, we enjoyed it. The others are very rough, but this one was nice. All three days I was really happy with the car and I must say again, this the best rally car I have ever driven. It was perfect weekend and we are happy with our result. I am looking forward for next rallies with Fiesta S2000."
World Rally Championship continues next month in Mexico (March, 5-7). Rally Mexico will be also the second event of 2010 S-WRC, so Czech Ford National Team will be there again in action.
