Petter Solberg exchanged positions in the general standings with the Citroen team's Dani Sordo today, but at the end of Rally Great Britain's Day One, he fought his way back up to third place overall by a margin of 1.1 seconds.
"It's been a good day here in Wales, and I'm really
happy with third overall," Solberg said, very pleased with his C4 WRC's handling.
"I'm picking up on the pace now, and the two guys ahead of me are actually fighting for the championship," he pointed out.
"Another long day tomorrow, and we will keep on pushing," promised the Norwegian, who is driving for the Citroen Junior Team this weekend following a one-off agreement.
"We have done some changes with the balance and the set up, but I feel it's getting better and better," he added.
Rally GB continues tomorrow with six more stages to cover; Saturday's schedule counts three different gravel tests to be covered twice.
