A one-two for the Stievenart familyThe last runs over the famed Bertrand-Fabi track took place under a dazzling sun and within a joyous atmosphere last Sunday, as the 10th edition of the Challenge sur glace, an ice event held near Sherbrooke in the Canadian Province of
Quebec, completed its programme.
The event has been described as a perfect happening by the organisers. Dany Sévigny and his team declared themselves proud of the road traveled since 1999... and are already working on next year's edition!
The national Canadian Motosport Racing Club (CMRC) motorbike finals kept everyone on the edge of their seats, with the Semi-Pro class transforming itself into a down-to-the-wire showdown between Dominic Beaulac and Maxime Sylvestre. However, the competition ended with a spectacular off form Shawn Ford, who suffered a concussion.
The equestrian participation was an appreciated part of the programme as these beautiful beasts delivered an attention-gathering performance. François Fleury, Sébastien Hébert and Daniel Doucet formed the top trio.
Twelve 4WD cars entered the week-end's final round.
The father-and-son pairing of Gilles and Evens Stievenart took all the honours, while Nabil Karam/Thierry Joncoux reached second place at the controls of their BMW and Christian Béroujon/Paul Bourion crossed the line in third position aboard the Mitsubishi.
The 4WD class was divided into two categories: European and North American cars. The final podium standings are indicated below.
