On the Rally Sanremo heart attack, a strong brake. Thanks to the satellite monitoring control the intensive care equipped ambulance arrived immediately.
The quick intervention proved insufficient, as was the rush to the Bordighera hospital. Ivano Benza did not make
it, his heart stopped beating a few minutes after he arrived at the hospital.
The fifty-year-old man from Sanremo, who was also the Vice-President of Automobile Club Sanremo, did not race that much anymore. But for the second time in a row he wanted to take part in the rally he rightly considered "his own one." Quite an unfortunate love.
"Ivano was one of the persons who fought to keep Rallye Sanremo going on, that's the reason why we decided to let the race continue. I'm sure this would be want he would have liked," said Sergio Maiga.
Maiga decided to cancel all other events previewed during the race and added: "We are all very sad and very close to his family."
