Germany : Czech Rally Team Kopecky - Finish
The Jan Kopecky-Filip Schovánek crew secured a strong result with the Skoda Fabia WRC car in ADAC Rallye Deutschland.
The Czech crew was able to defend their fifth place on Sunday, which it gained in the first two legs of
the race. A very dramatic finish to the race, where only the last special stage decided about the final order in the point receiving positions, ended in favour of Jan and Filip, because at the finish of the race they had a lead of 7.6 seconds on the former world champion Petter Solberg.
It was with Petter Solberg and Toni Gardemeister that Jan had an awesome battle in Sunday's leg. The greatest joy prevailed in the service area of Czech Rally Team Kopecky, because with this fifth place Jan has achieved his best finish in the Rallye Deutschland and has tied his best ranking in a race classified in the World Championship.
A great performance is confirmed by Jan Kopecky's gap of only 0.53 seconds per each kilometre of every special stage to the overall winner of Rallye Deutschland.
"I am happy that we were able to finish the Rallye Deutschland in an excellent fifth place. The race was not simple at all and we had to drive very fast right from the initial special stage all the way to the finish line.
We were able to fend off the attack by our competitors in Sunday's leg and while running in a very high pace, we were still able to avoid mistakes.
"I enjoyed the race very much, because we were battling excellent top drivers throughout all three legs. Neither one of us could ease off, because the other drivers would immediately take advantage of any of each other's hesitation. We have just completed a beautiful and dramatic race, from which we've gained the maximum possible.
"We were going to Germany with a clear objective, which was to finish in a scored position. We accomplished the objective as a team, which performed a perfect job starting with the test before the race all the way up to the final service. A great thanks and gratitude belongs to team members, because they all have a great share in our excellent result. A maximum thanks also belongs to Skoda Auto a.s., for their faith and support not only in this race."
"We are bringing home from Germany four championship points and can understandably be extremely satisfied. It was great to compare our times with the world's absolute top throughout the entire race.
"Of course we were aware of the huge support of our fans in Germany. On most of the special stages we truly felt like we are at home. A great thanks belongs to our fans as well as all others, who took part in our excellent result."
"Foremost I would like to thank to all, who had their share in our start in the Rally Deutschland. Thanks to this I was able to experience an unbelievably dramatic, beautiful, but also for us a very successful race.
"We wanted to come home from the German rally with some points and the team, starting already with the two day test, was doing their maximum for our success.
"Jan with Filip started in a high pace right from the first special stage, without which we'd have no chance of success. The fifth place is no way a coincidental result, but for a great result our duo had to race to the finish with a concentrated effort on the edge of their abilities.
"They flawlessly handled the attacks from the competitors, who only kept picking up the pace on Sunday. In spite of such, Jan and Filip did not make any mistake and along with the top job performed by their entire team they fully deserve this result and they clearly confirmed their rightful place among the world's best."
