Acropolis: OMV Kronos Citroen WRT - PreviewFollowing seventh place in Sardinia two weeks ago, the OMV Kronos Citroen World Rally Team has drawn hope again. This uptrend shall be continued at the BP Ultimate Acropolis Rally of Greece.
A vital factor will be to avoid
as much tyre damage as possible during the eighth run of the FIA World Rally Championship. A top result would be a motivation booster considering the subsequent rally break of almost two months.
The disappointments of the last months are forgotten for now. Following Rally Sardinia, OMV driver Manfred Stohl has drawn new hope once more. The 34-year-old Austrian is completely satisfied with the set-up of the Citroen Xsara WRC. With a little more power, which he is hoping for at the Acropolis event, the fight for top results will be on again.
"The OMV Kronos Citroen World Rally Team did a great job during the last weeks. Now we want to reap the rewards in Greece," Stohl said.
"But you can't compare this rally to any other in the WRC calendar. Here you are fighting the heat and the constant danger of a tyre damage from first to last," he pointed out.
Even though Manfred Stohl was able to reach only one top 10 result in Greece in previous years (6th place in 2004), the OMV duo of Stohl/Minor nevertheless feels comfortable at the probably toughest WRC-run of the season.
"Every driver wants to get a top result before the summer break, of course. We already had quite good results in Greece – also with the Xsara. In 2005 we reached several third-best SS overall times on the second day," added Stohl.
"I am sure that we will be able to keep up this time as well, even though the Ford WRC's definitely are still advantaged here. And, after all, eight teams of this manufacturer will compete," concluded Manfred.
