''For me super specials are not rallying''Echoing the view of many, Championship leader
Sebastien Loeb admits he is no fan of the super special stages that prove so popular for the event organisers. More often than not, the rally will begin and conclude with a short stadium
stage and while it is a spectacle, it means hardly anything in terms of the overall rally result.
The Argentinean event saw poor weather restrict the movement of the teams from the opening super special stage, resulting in the cancellation of all but one stage on Friday.
"For me to go to Buenos Aires was perhaps a bit too much," Loeb said of the Thursday opening stage. "For me super specials are not rallying. They are a show. For me rallying is in the forests. It is good to have a show, but to lose one complete day for it is not so good. Hopefully it will be a lesson for the future."
Citroen boss Guy Frequelin agreed with his lead driver. "It's very difficult for an organiser to do super specials 800 kilometres from the base of the rally," he explained. "But it was a good marketing idea and that was interesting, but it's very difficult to do and the bad weather was very bad luck for the organisers. You can't say the super special was not good but with the weather it was too difficult..."
