Safety mattersIn 2007 Central and Eastern Europe's leading oil and gas group, OMV, will be putting the focus on road safety in its Move & Help project.
All sponsorship activities and projects will be given over to the topic. OMV's international filling station network
will help raise awareness of safety, and rally driver Manfred Stohl and team will also be driving in support of this good cause.
Projects run by partners NGOs Caritas, SOS Children's Village and UNICEF range from driving lessons to safety on the way to school and road safety training.
"After so much positive feedback on OMV Move & Help, we are adding another issue to our social responsibility agenda – road safety," said OMV chief executive Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer. "You can only arrive safe and sound at your destination if you travel safely."
OMV filling stations in ten countries will be taking up this issue in an integrated campaign. A total of 200,000 reflector strips will go on sale in Austria, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Slovakia. The proceeds will go towards education and road safety projects run by Caritas, SOS Children's Village and UNICEF.
The OMV reflector strips have the words "See Me" printed on them to put across the "seen is safe" message. The reflector strip prevents drivers from overlooking children in bad light conditions.
"See Me" stickers can be sent to friends or affixed to clothing or schoolbags.
OMV Move & Help at all rally events
The OMV Rally Team will lend an additional dimension to this year's OMV Move & Help campaign. OMV drivers will pass on their knowledge and experience of road safety to children and others.
EUR 20 will be donated to OMV Move & Help for every kilometer covered in the special stages by OMV Kronos Citroen World Rally Team drivers this season. The proceeds will go towards educational and road safety projects for some 35,000 children and teenagers in Europe and Pakistan. The latest totals and related activities can be monitored at www.owrt.com and on an LCD display in the service area of the OMV Kronos Citroen World Rally team.
Meanwhile, children up to the age of 14 have been invited to give OMV driver Manfred Stohl's car a makeover. A jury will select the three most creative designs from a short list of over 200 entries from ten countries. The final voting round will start on www.owrt.com on May 2.
The new-look OMV Move & Help rally car will be used for the World Championship race in Germany from August 17-19, 2007. The lucky winner will be there to experience it live with his/her family.
International education program
In 2007 OMV and its established partners Caritas, SOS Children's Village and UNICEF will be working on numerous education projects in Europe and Pakistan. This year, additional emphasis will be placed on road safety.
Caritas is launching safety training courses for teachers and organizing city trips for kids to gain real-life experience of road safety issues. SOS Children's Village will be supporting moped training for teenagers and L17 trainee drivers, as well as refresher courses for new license holders. UNICEF is contributing by making the way to school safer at danger spots.
