Stobart Team on hand to raise fundsWorld Rally Championship star Matthew Wilson and his Stobart Motorsport team will be attending a two-day charity event at the Royal Air Force Leuchars base in Scotland next week.
The Firebird Invitational 2007 is being held over
23-24 April and is hoping to raise much-needed money for the RAF Benevolent Fund and The Prince's Trust.
Corporate businesses have donated money to take part in this prestigious charity event and Wilson's involvement will include taking these lucky participants for a three-mile blast around a specially designed track at the RAF base in his Stobart Ford Focus RS06 World Rally Car.
The Cumbrian-based lad and his Stobart team will be on-hand to help the RAF achieve their goal of raising over £100,000 for these two extremely worthwhile charities.
To promote the RAF and raise funds for charity, 56(R) Squadron, RAF Leuchars, is hosting the Firebird Invitational in exciting fashion. On day one, the corporate teams who have kindly donated to the charitable causes will play a round at the world famous Gleneagles Golf Course.
On the second day members from the businesses will be given the chance to use the latest in simulation technology at the base. Firstly they will have the opportunity to demonstrate their marksmanship in a digital weapons range simulator for handguns and rifles with simulated moving scenes.
They will then fly a Tornado in a state-of-the-art Tornado F3 Simulator.
To cap it all off they will each be treated to one of the biggest adrenalin rushes they have ever experienced, when Wilson takes them for a high speed lap they will never forget in his current World Rally Championship car.
Matthew Wilson
"It is fantastic for myself and Stobart Motorsport to be involved with the Firebird Invitational and especially when I'm helping to raise money for these two main charities. The RAF, and all the armed forces in the UK, have an enormous responsibility and it's always good to be able to give something back. The Squadron at RAF Leuchars have put a lot of effort into this event and I know it will be a real success for them. I'm heading off to the next WRC round in Argentina a few days after the Firebird Invitational so, for me, it will also be good to have some more time in this fantastic car."
