Mattias Ekstrom Sumar
Mattias Ekström will make his factory WRC debut in Sweden 2005 when he joins the Škoda Motorsport World Rally Team for the first time. The current German Touring Car (DTM) Champion has been released by Audi Sport, one of Škoda Motorsport’s partners within the VW Group, to take part in this event.
Mattias has shown himself to be a forceful competitor. On the race track, taking second place and the Rookie of the Year title on his Swedish Touring Car Championship
debut in 1997 before winning the series two years later with an Audi A4 Quattro. He progressed to the 2001 DTM series with an Audi TT-R and over the next four years finished eighth, third, fourth and first respectively.
Mattias has also found time to try his hand at rallying thanks to the encouragement of his girlfriend, co-driver Tina Thorner. In 2004 he won Group N on both the Swedish and Catalunya rallies.
