A rally run at altitude for the largest part with mountain stages and hilly sections
Part of the World Rally Championship since the start of the 80s, Rally Argentina is one of the drivers' favourite rounds. One reason is that the route running through the mountains around La Cumbre offers magnificent scenery and varied stages. The other point is that the enthusiastic locals always give a warm welcome to the sporting tourists of the world.
Altitude is also the name of the game in Argentina. The rally is the highest round of the championship and teams must therefore take special care when determining engine setups since high altitudes sap power. Robust cars are also a must as the route is at times broken and rough. The event has taken place in May since 1997 thus ensuring better weather conditions for the competitors. However, since 2004 the South American event is held in July (winter in Argentina), changing the race conditions once again.
