Following an accident after 195 km of today's special stage, 2006 free-ride champion Frenchman Guerlain Chicherit and co-pilot Matthieu Baumel have been forced to drop out.
Now that the first 8 cars have arrived at the finishing line
of this 6th special stage, American Robby Gordon has won his 3rd special stage victory on the Dakar, 17" ahead of Frenchman Jean-Louis Schlesser and 6'52 in front of South African Giniel de Villiers.
Now that the first 5 trucks have completed 249 km, the leader of the general rankings, Dutchman Hans Stacey, is the virtual leader of the special stage, 6'54 ahead of Russian Ilgizar Mardeev and 8'00 in front of his countryman Gerard De Rooy.
Victorious in the 2001 edition, German Jutta Kleinschmidt is currently stopped after 372 km of the special stage and is trying to repair.
Having suffered an oil pump problem after 152 km of the special stage, the French crew of Jean-François Guinot and Manfred Kroiss are now waiting for their assistance team
