Peterhansel takes the early lead
Dakar Rally : News from Leg 5
Now that the first 56 motorbikes have started the day's special stage, the first three have just gone through CP1, after 28 km. Spaniard Isidre Esteve is in the lead, 24" ahead of Cyril Despres and 29" in front of Marc Coma.

The first
two bikes have completed 129 km, and the Spaniard Isidre Esteve is still the virtual leader of the day's special stage, 1'03 ahead of Frenchman Cyril Despres.

Yesterday's special winner, Frenchman Jean-Louis Schlesser, kicked off proceedings for the day's special stage at 09.30 GMT as scheduled.

Now that the first 5 cars have gone through CP1 (after 28 km) Frenchman Stephane Peterhansel is the virtual leader of the special stage at CP1, 30" ahead of Giniel De Villiers.

The South African driver is 1" ahead of Sainz. The Spaniard is 34" ahead of Portuguese driver Carlos Sousa and 1'03 in front of Frenchman Jean-Louis Schlesser.
