Driving an SMG Buggy
Six-time Austrian rally champion Raphael Sperrer has confirmed that he will contest his second consecutive Dakar Rally with an SMG Buggy, built by Philippe Gache in Vallauris, France for Team Raphael Sperrer.MBR
Raphael could not resist a return
to Dakar after last year's first ever participation with Norvegian co-driver Ola Floene.
"The Dakar rally was always a dream of mine and having tried it for the first time last year, I'm already addicted," said Sperrer. "We have an excellent car from Philippe Gache: An SMG Buggy prototype with a powerful 7-litre V8 engine. This car is more powerful than last year's and easier to handle and to control. I have also an excellent experienced co-driver, one of France's off-road stars Sylvain Poncet."
"I'm ready for a new challenge in the desert and all its dangers. I have learned the hard way last year how difficult and demanding this race can be. Experience is not always an asset as there are some things you can't prepare for. I'm confident that we have a well prepared car and a team with high racing experience and technical knowledge. This will certainly be an asset to help me and my co-driver Sylvain Poncet."
"I've been training hard in preparation for this 9,000km adventure," Sperrer added. "This time my will to succeed is greater than ever. I know what to expect and we'll reach our goal thanks to my main sponsors.”
