In the Rally of Tunisia
After an extraordinary experience within Robby Gordon's team on a Hummer H3
for the last Dakar, Eric Vigouroux
confirms his participation in the rally of Tunisia 2009.
“I am very proud of the result accomplished by the Team Dakar the USA on the Dakar 2009, which was the only team to have all of its cars at the finish line. Robby Gordon made a real success by finishing on the third walk of the podium himself.
For me, this experience has a very positive assessment after having come very close to abandonment on the 3rd special stage, after the loss of a motor pulley at the beginning of the timed sector. After having lost nearly 6 hours to repair, we found ourselves at the bottom of the classification with enormous difficulties to climb again because of the traffic and just a single track drowned in a permanent cloud of dust. However we succeeded in placing our Hummer several times on first 10 (particularly on the 6th place on the 14th stage) for finally reaching the 13th place on general classification.
Moreover Robby and me we got along very well, the team environment was exceptional, so I am very motivated to join the Team Dakar the USA in 2010. ”
Like the previous years, Eric continues his season with the rally of Tunisia. For this new edition 2009, Eric will return with his spectacular Chevrolet Trophy-Truck with which he reached the second walk of the podium in 2008, along with his loyal co-driver, Alex Winocq.
“I have excellent memories of our last participation in Tunisia's rally. We lived a particularly intense rally with tiny time variations until the end of the race.
At the beginning of the last special, we were only twelve seconds apart from the leaders, after 9 days and 4500kms of race, something never seen before! ”
In this context, Eric and Alex will have a very important role and they expect to be able to stand on the podium once more, but this time aiming to go as far as possible, looking for first place.
“It seems natural to me, to have such an ambitious goal after our result in 2008. However we will fight against very powerful professional teams which have budgetary means much more important than ours. We are used to raise this kind of challenge and we will give the best of ourselves to achieve all our goals”.
For this next appointment, the Chevrolet Trophy-Truck was prepared in Arizona and it went under some modifications, essentially the top speed improvement, and also the deflation and inflation system of the tires.
Eric will leave his residence in California one week before the race in order to supervise the final preparations at his workshop next to Paris, in France. His team will be made up by French and American mechanics whose common denominator is their passion for off-road challenges.
