Volkswagen look at the stats
The 2006 Dakar Rally is an event of superlatives: 508 participants, including, for the first time, five Volkswagen Race Touareg 2 prototypes, set off on the long 9,043 kilometre journey from Lisbon, Portugal to Dakar in the Senegal on the 31
December. A number game of spare parts, ready-made soups, diesel and tents.
5 Volkswagen Race Touareg prototypes start in the 2006 "Dakar”. The works drivers and their co-drivers: Jutta Kleinschmidt/Fabrizia Pons, Mark Miller/Dirk von Zitzewitz, Bruno Saby/Michel Périn, Carlos Sainz/Andy Schulz and Giniel de Villiers/Tina Thörner
12 Tents serving as offices for engineers, doctors, physiotherapists and co-drivers and as mobile workshops for the five Race Touareg prototypes are erected every evening
14 Is the number of Dakar Rallies Jutta Kleinschmidt has already contested and therefore starts number fifteen this time
15 Stages are to be completed during the 2006 Dakar Rally between the 31 December and 15 January. There is only a single rest day on 8 January
