A long wait for his first participation
This year's Dakar was the first for 49-year-old Pascal Terry, an avid sportsman who practised squash, cycling, and horseriding. He enjoyed motorsports as well and had recently participated in rallies based in Tunisia and Morocco, saddled
upon a Yamaha 450 motorbike identical to that used this week in Argentina.
"The place seems fabulous," Pascal Terry stated a few days ago after arriving in the 2009 Dakar's main host country. "We're going to live a great moment, and I'll do everything I can to enjoy every stage of the race. I really believe that's it's going to be exceptional."
Despite his age, Terry was a newcomer to the event.
He had been dreaming of entering a Dakar since he was 19, "since it came into existence."
Pascal Terry lived his dream during the final days of his life; having never met Dakar Rally founder Thierry Sabine over his lifetime, maybe he is now accomplishing that as well...
