Dakar - Motorbikes - Stage 1
When he arrived at the Santa Rosa de la Pampa stopover, Marc Coma was keeping a clear head despite his main rival's setback: Cyris Després was dealt a blow when the rear tyre of his KTM flattened, forcing him to finish his run on the rim.
trouble allowed Coma to build a 41-minute advantage by the time the Dakar's opening stage concluded, but the Spaniard is not rejoicing just yet even if Després now sits 24th in the standings.
"We have just completed the first of 14 stages on this Dakar," he underlined. "You all know that a Dakar isn't won the first day; a similar problem could hit me at any moment. Cyril, like Casteu, encountered tyre issues. Tomorrow might be my turn."
Jacek Czachor occupies second position while young Miran Stavonik claims third place.
David Casteu, also the victim of a punctured rear tyre, received generous help from Emanuel Gyenes who gifted him with his own rear tyre while he waited for assistance. Casteu ended the day in 68th position.
