More and more Top-Teams, registration still possible
Up to the 31st of January there still is the possibility to register for the new German rally in Libya. Dunes hundred of meters high, straight high speed pistes, endless sand, touristical highlights such as the Akakus-Mountains
or the Mandara-Lakes are waiting for the participants – just a breathtaking landscape, unique in North Africa. Currently the rally seems to develop towards a car dominated event and some interesting names are there to be announced.
The Mercedes specialist „ORC” will come along with a huge 6x6 Dakar service truck, driven by Hans Baur, the chief himself. The team will participate with three vehicles, thereof two Mercedes G and one Mercedes ML. This ML is not the one in the Evo-stage but the T2 version engaged in the Transsyberia last year. While the Amateur-Specialist Hans-Dieter Kessler (so far driving Mercedes G) is now trying out the ML, the remaining teams are coming from Belgium and South Germany.
From the North of Germany Andreas Wulf and Anja Bork pronounced there participation with their Nissan Navara T2 and from Switzerland the brother-duo Eisenmann / Eisenmann (Toyota Landcruiser) are already well-known from the "El Chott" or "Erg Oriental". Both are serviced by the Brandenburg "Daktec"-Team, who are also participating with a Service-Truck and a Fast-Assistance vehicle.
"High attendance" is coming from the South-German city Crailsheim. As Land Rover expert Roland Kilzer still has an „open invoice” with the desert and wants to know about it after his early retirement at the 2. Erg Oriental in 2006.
"Until the very end we postponed the decision which car to choose”, reports Kilzer, “now we go for the "Dakar Proto”.” The proto is a kind of 4x4 buggy based on a Land Rover Discovery II, with a curios look – but damned fast.
Fast is also Oliver Koepp from Munich, whose participation is yet not quite sure, but this would guaranty exciting duels in the top ranking. If he will come, he starts with a modified Mercedes G, which debuted on the "Erg Oriental" in autumn last year. Libya of not unknown to Koepp as he already won the second edition of the "Libya Desert Challenge" in 2006, which was sold last year to a Belgian organizer.
It will keep thrilling who finally will start in Libya as not only from the German speaking areas but also numerous interested teams from all over Europe inquired. Even if the first issue of the Libya Rally Raid should finally run with only with a small number of participants, the investors of the event will go through in any case. "We see this Rally as a start, targeting to deliver a very good event with satisfied participants and afterwards we will see."
A well prepared base is there: the financial part is totally secured, for the first time a German amateur rally has the insurance coverage to FIA Standard, the local organization is done by the already proven agency "Aania", the catering will supply the German outdoor professional Pit Frey, the medical care is a cooperation of Promedic (Dr. Clemens Nowak) and ORMS (Klaus Spörl) and the race manager is the experienced Marco Bölling. The remaining of the organization is arranged by Rally-Chief Wolfgang Pasetti personally: "They are only persons who understand theirs job and who I have been worked together with successfully” as Pasetti reports.
A marathonrally.com team will accompany the event and report directly from the Libya Rally Raid on a daily base with news, standings, pictures and – if possible – with little videos in German, English and Hungarian. Next to other journalists a film crew of the north German PIA-production will accompany the rally.
