With Team Dessoude
Chinese team Honghe will be relying on Team Dessoude's experience to achieve their aim. We will meet young Chinese prodigy Xu Lang again, who finished the 2006 Dakar in 19th position overall. Once again, Xu will be navigated by Fabian Lurquin.
Our two friends, who know each other well, need to get their Pickup 03 to Dakar.
« For the third time, I am setting of on the Dakar with Xu Lang. We drove together in 2005 and 2006. Now, he has more experience, and his English has also improved… The first two times, we drove a Paladin. Our best result was 19th. With the Pickup, which is more competitive, the experience we now both have should allow us to finish in an ‘honorable' position. Our stated aim is to finish as the leading Chinese crew. In terms of the route, it is difficult to make any prognostics, but one thing is certain : the hundred or so kilometres of extra special stages per day. This is a parameter that cannot be ignored. We will have to take care of the Pickup, and get out of the big Mauritanian stages without problems in order to hope to finish the event. »
The second Team Honghe crew, which is 100% Chinese, will be taking part for the first time. HUA Qingxian and TIAN Chuannan will be driving a Pathfinder T1. A perfectly reliable car, which can take them to the Rose Lake without problems, as long as they control any high spirits and are patient…
Another Chinese team, Team Zhengzhou, has remained faithful to Team Dessoude, and will enter two vehicles : two Oting cars from the Dongfeng manufacturer. The first will be in the hands of Zhou Yong (19th in 2005), driving once again with Sylvain Poncet, while the second will be driven by the Angolan crew of Carlos Oliveira and Jose Carlos Madaleno.
The aim will be to get these two vehicles to Dakar in the best possible positions. Zhou Yong and Sylvain Poncet know each other well, and the duo works perfectly well. The wisdom of the Frenchman combined with the talent of the young Chinese driver could work marvels. As for the Angolan team of Carlos Oliveira and Jose Carlos Madaleno, the situation is slightly different. Even if he has plenty of cross-country experience, Carlos Oliveira is taking part in his first competition.
A fine challenge to face the Dakar on his first event ! But Carlos can count on the undoubted experience of Jose Carlos Madaleno, who is far from a rookie. An Angolan crew in a Chinese team ? Dongfeng is building a gigantic factory in Angola, and is counting on the Dakar to promote this enterprise on the international stage and most particularly in Africa.
Dmitry Pavlov and Sergey Bosko
The Russian duo of Dmitry Pavlov and Sergey Bosko, extremely experienced in the T2 category, will be driving a Pathfinder. This crew recently won the Production category during the last Rally of Morocco. Dmitry made his motorsport debut seven years ago, first as a mechanic, and then entered the Russian national championship with a little Niva. For the last two years, he has been driving a Patrol T2 and has adapted extremely well to this category.
His aim for the Dakar is to reach the finish. Even if the Pathfinder is very different from the Patrol, in terms of the weight, agility and top speed, it is quite similar in terms of the handling to the Niva Chevrolet that Dmitry drove a long time in the Russian championship. This team will reinforce Team Dessoude's T2 armada, whose main rivals should be the Toyota team.
