UAE-based Team Gecko Honda have completed Day 6 of the International Australian Safari completing over half the 9 day trek through Western Australia. The sixth day of the race comprised of 5 stage sprints to Leonara from Meekathara.
With an unspectacular finish to Day 5 the
Team has recovered well to place Martin Cleary in 13th place overall. Steven Blackney, 9 times Middle East Motocross Champion unfazed by a flat tyre on Day 5 and a start in 64th place on Day 6 finished top 20 in four out of five of the race stages. Navigational errors and a flat tyre have kept lead rider Sean Linton at 30th overall position at present.
“It was a very fast day today and well suited to my style,” states Cleary, “It’s looking increasingly likely for at least top 5 finish for me in my category and with only one retirement for us so far we are very hopeful for an International team prize.”
The team will continue to draw from their many hours of practice in the UAE terrain as the rally sets off to the most challenging day of the Rally so far. Day 7 continues southwards towards Kalgoorlie most famed for it’s gold mines.
