The UAE’s International Rally Team Gecko Honda have completed their third stage of the Australian Safari Rally today. Leaving Broome to follow the Western Australian coast towards Port Hedland the team excelled on this stage as the route changed to emulate the terrain of the UAE’s
deserts.
Martin Cleary leads the Dubai-based team currently sitting in 15th place overall and 5th fastest of the day followed by Sean Linton in 30th. Recovering from engine failure on Day 2, Steve Blackney is back in the race with high hopes for gaining further points for the UAE team.
Team Gecko Honda outshone many rivals as the day comprised of a tougher navigational course than on previous days. Heavy dust and deep sand meant greater margin for error on route but the team managed to stay on track with all riders arriving in without issues.
“I’m extremely pleased with my results so far. The bike has been outstanding and the support of our team has been invaluable” states Cleary, “It’s great the team has had such promising results at such early stages.”
The rally course turns inland towards the desert plains of Western Australia where the terrain will become more unpredictable and navigational skills will be paramount.
