Second consecutive victory for Lorenzo
Jerez : 250cc race
After having dominated the 250cc class for the whole weekend at his home track, Jorge Lorenzo gave the thousands of fans gathered at Jerez reason to celebrate with a superb victory.

In his post-race celebration, Lorenzo ran to the gravel trap and
planted down a flag marking his territory. And he could rightfully call the Spanish circuit ‘Lorenzo's Land' after taking his second quarter litre victory at the track in as many years.

That is not to say that the factory Aprilia rider had things easy- far from it. Second placed Alvaro Bautista and third placed Andrea Dovizioso all took turns in leading the race, exchanging positions at a dizzying rate. The former managed to complete a home one-two ahead of the 2006 World Championship runner-up, competing in only his second 250cc race.

Dovizioso was displaying a newfound aggression as he rode to a podium finish, not allowing himself to be pushed out of the running. A small wobble from Bautista at the Dry Sack corner held up the duo and allowed Lorenzo to finally build a small gap, which he maintained until the finish line.

The home fans could maybe have been looking at an all-Spanish top three, with Hector Barbera also involved in the four-way battle up until the latter stages. A front end slip left the distraught Team Toth Aprilia rider with nothing to show for his efforts, whilst the same can also be said of Julian Simon. The Repsol Honda man had a woeful start, but after clawing his way back up to a top six position he too crashed out.

Alex de Angelis used up his tyres whilst moving up to challenge for a top three finish, and in the end couldn't keep up with the scorching pace of the leading trio. Wild card Alex Debon completed the Spanish representation in the top six, ahead of Aoyama brothers Hiroshi and Shuhei and their compatriot Yuki Takahashi. Former team-mates Anthony West and Dirk Heidolf both earned well-deserved points as a result of their top ten finishes.

Of the favoured title contenders in the race, 250cc rookies Thomas Luthi and Mika Kallio both failed to finish the race.
