“I am very proud of my victory”Aprilia keeps triumphing in Qatar also with the 250cc.
Four of its official RSW gain the first four places, confirming that Aprilia is in line with its last year's performance.
Jorge Lorenzo is the first to cross the finishing
line. The 2006 champion has been the protagonist of a long solitary run after a feeble start, keeping an extraordinary pace that vanified his direct competitors' efforts to catch up with him.
"Last year, I had to push hard in all races in order to conquer the World title” - said Lorenzo – “I did the same this time. I am very proud of my victory and I would like to thank my team for working hard and helping me solve the trouble I had in the front. Next race will take place in Spain, and I would be happy to win again in front of my public".
The second step of the podium goes to Alex De Angelis, from San Marino, who performed a great recovery after a wrong start enabling him to gain the fastest lap of 2'00"121. The Spanish Hector Barbera gets the third position. He had proved to be the protagonist on the Losail circuit both during the IRTA testing and in the week end of practice, had to bow his head to Lorenzo's overwhelming power and De Angelis' wild pace.
"I am very happy with this result”- said De Angelis – “I had a bad start and I was behind during the first laps, making it hard to recover. While lapping for kilometres, I gained a good feeling with the bike, and here I am on the podium. Maybe if I had started better, things would have worked out differently".
Thomas Luthi, racing for the first time with 250cc, brilliantly gained the fourth place. After his great start, he has been fighting for the lowest step of the podium throughout the whole race. The twelfth place goes to Fabrizio Lai on his Aprilia RS standard of the Campetella Racing team. It's worth mentioning that Alvaro Bautista's fall during his second lap was without consequences.
"I am very happy” -said Luthi – “I had a great start, I was leading at the first bend, then Lorenzo overtook me and I could not keep up with his pace. I fought with Barbera for the third position, but I committed two mistakes in the last two laps resulting in the fourth place. I am happy because we worked hard and very well, both during the tests and here in Qatar. I am very optimistic about Jerez".
