With Yamaha Supersport team
Michele Pirro really showed his worth at Valencia. Riding the R1 prepared by Team Yamaha Italia Lorenzini by Leoni, Pirro lapped in 1m39s, just nine tenths of a second slower than the time recorded six days ago by future team mate Claudio Corti.
determination, clean style and precision trajectories of the man from San Giovanni Rotondo impressed everybody who saw him and has given the team the confidence they need to look forward to a probably tougher than ever 2007 season with two riders able to carry on fighting to the last.
"I've still got a long way to go," said Pirro at the end of the day's testing, "but today I didn't want to jeopardise everything by a silly fall. The wind was really frightening out there and nearly blew me off a couple of times."
"This bike has got amazing potential and at the moment I'm only able to use some of it. I'm delighted with my time today but I can go a lot faster still. I just need to get out there and ride as much as possible. There's one thing I can say already, though. I'm really enjoying riding a four stroke!" he concluded.
