“Polyccio” finishes 6th in the last GPCampetella Racing Junior team rider Pol Espargarò, has concluded Sunday's final GP of the 2006 Motorcycle World Championship with a marvellous 6th place.
The young rider from Catalunya, 6th on the starting grid, has concluded
the 24 laps of the race in 40'27.888, just 12 seconds off GP winner Faubel and only 4 behind Bautista. Pol, who gained 10 points, ends his mini Championship in 20th place with a total of 19 points; a very good result indeed considering that he participated to just 7 races out of 16.
"I am very happy. It has been quite a tough race though!" said the Spanish rider. "The team and I have done a good job and I'm glad that we've got a good result in the race which paid off a weekend of hard work: sometimes it doesn't go this way! I took a good start and I was 1st on the first corner but nevertheless I kept calm. I saw that I could stay with Pesek and I did my race."
"Then, unfortunately, I spent few laps “playing” with Pasini as we kept passing one another and this made us loose the group of riders ahead of us," added Pol Espargaro. "After that it was difficult to fetch them. In any case I'm happy with my 6th place and I'd like to thank my mechanics, the whole Team, my personal sponsors and my family too."
No points at all this year, instead, for Italian rider Simone Grotzkyj Giorgi who crossed the last finishing line for the year in 28th place. "I've had some problems at the start of the race and after that I managed to recuperate few positions up until 23rd place. From there, though, I couldn't go any further and 3 laps from the end of the race I've had a problem with the bike and went straight on corner no. 1 hence losing many places," said Simone Grotzkyj Giorgi.
