Aprilia dominates the Portuguese Grand Prix
Astonishing debut of the new Aprilia RSA
Alvaro Bautista authoritatively won the 125 race at the Portugal GP. The Spanish rider (atop a new Aprilia 125 RSA) literally dominated the race, leaving his adversaries alone to battle it out for the podium. After a race-long fight,
it was Hector Faubel to accompany Bautista atop the podium in 2nd place, finishing ahead of Kallio.

Coming out of the pole position, Bautista came into the first curve in 4th place but transitioned into first at the end of the first lap, already with half a second of advantage. The pace set by the new world champion in Portugal was impossible for anyone else to keep up with. Bautista, in fact, clocked the fasted time on the track that was about 1.5 seconds ahead of the others. After ten laps, the Spanish rider had accumulated an advantage of over 9 seconds. Not only that, but with just a few laps until the end, Bautista set a track record of 1.45:746. The rider from Talavera de la Reina cruised under the checkered flag with more than 15 seconds of advantage of his teammate Faubel, 2nd in the classification.

An extraordinary progression that didn't leave anyone else a chance in the race where Aprilia debuted the new 8-liter RSA. It is a completely new motorcycle that was projected and developed by the technicians from Ing. Gigi Dall'Igna. Already on the track last year, the RSA completed nearly a year of testing to arrive at the excellent level it demonstrated at the Estoril race. Developed by Test Team Aprilia, the RSA had a principal test rider in Gino Borsoi, the ex-international rider who is currently the Sporting Director of Master Aspar Team, Bautista and Faubel's team.

The new RSA has adopted an admission with rotating posterior discs as its principal characteristic, a technical peculiarity that exalts the technological achievements reached by Aprilia in its racing products. In respect to the world champion RS, the new motorcycle has adopted new mechanics and a frame that frontally absorbs a dynamic air- intake that supplies the new central airbox.

After his 8th victory of the season, Bautista continues his unstoppable march towards new records. The new 125 world champion leaves the Portugal GP with both the track and race records (respectively 1.45:322 and the 1.45:746 marked in the 16th lap). If that was not enough, Bautista is the world champion who has conquered the most points in a 125 season (over 325) since the historical 1997 season with Valentino Rossi, who remains the record holder.

With Bautista, Aprilia is the protagonist of the 2006 season, conquering the international riders' and constructors' titles with three races left to go in the season and continuing to dominate the final 8-liter GP's.
