Carlos has made his choice
The Honda LCR team has reached an agreement with Spanish rider Carlos Checa to race in the 2007 MotoGP World Championship.
LCR team boss Lucio Cecchinello has also confirmed he will also enter a Honda in the 250cc world championship for
the Irish rider Eugene Laverty.
The deal for Checa to race in place of Australian rider Casey Stoner in 2007 came on Sunday evening following the Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril.
Checa will ride one of the new, 800cc Honda MotoGP bikes. Checa, 34, has raced in 173 grands prix over an 11 year career and will bring a wealth of experience to the Honda LCR team.
Laverty, 20, will make his debut in the 250cc world championship after finishing third in the British Supersport Championship this year.
“I am happy to finalise an agreement with Carlos Checa to join our team in what will be an exciting project with the new 800cc MotoGP regulations. Unfortunately I was unable to reach an agreement with Casey Stoner to ride for LCR in 2007.
I am proud that the Honda LCR team was able to bring a talented young rider like Casey into MotoGP this season and I would like to wish him all the best for his future career.”
