For one rally in New Zealand
For the second time in his career, MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi will compete in a World Rally Championship event.
The Italian, who made his first WRC appearance at the 2002 Rally GB, is all set for this year's Rally New Zealand
(17-19 November). Rossi will drive an Impreza WRC prepared by the Subaru World Rally Team, although he will be entered in the race as a privateer.
"Valentino has entered Rally New Zealand privately in his own name,” confirmed Subaru World Rally Team's Managing Director, Richard Taylor. “He will however be driving a car supplied by us; in fact, the car which Chris Atkinson drove in Germany this year."
"There's still a bit of work to do on the details and it may be run alongside the Subaru team,” added Taylor. “But it will certainly not be an SWRT- liveried car."
Despite the fact that this will only be Valentino's second WRC event, the MotoGP Champion has enjoyed rallying for some time, competing in a few national events in Italy.
"Valentino has driven a car with us several times before, at Monza and Bologna and said that he would like to do another WRC event,” explainded Taylor.
“New Zealand has been discussed for several months, as it fits in with his MotoGP programme and it's an event he would like to compete in."
"I think this is great news. It's wonderful that he is this interested in the WRC and of course, we're glad that he will be driving a Subaru," concluded Taylor.
