A new podium for KTM
Red Bull KTM's Hiroshi Aoyama scored his fifth podium place of the season coming in third in the 14th round, the Australian Grand Prix.
In a fast and furious race over 25 laps, the 24-year-old Japanese rider crossed the line in third and now occupies
fourth place in the season's standings.
The second man in Team Orange, Manuel Poggiali, went through the checkered flag at place 13. The 23-year-old from San Marino took a hefty fall during afternoon practice on Saturday and was still experiencing significant pain in his elbow at the start of Sunday's race.
A total of 93,531 enthusiastic Australian racing fans were at the Phillip Island to celebrate with riders and their teams.
The next round is the Japanese Grand Prix on the Motegi circuit north of Tokyo next weekend.
Hiroshi Aoyama #4 Red Bull KTM GP 250 – 3rd place
“It was good racing today and we are very happy to get this third place here at Phillip Island. I wanted to follow the top guys, but in the middle of the race there was a tough battle with Dovizioso so our times were not as fast and I wasn't able to catch up with the guys in the front later. But I'm very happy for the third position as we had to solve some engine problems over the weekend and I have never finished really well on this track. Third is a real good result for me. Next round will be my home round at Motegi.
There are big expectations from all sides, but I will give my best as always and hope we are going to do well there as well.”
Manuel Poggiali # 54 Red Bull KTM GP 250 – 13th Place
“In warm up this morning it was working a bit better for me than in the race. We did try a different solution for the race and it didn't work out as we expected. Also, after my crash from yesterday afternoon I'm not 100 percent fit. Clinica Mobile did a good job and helped me a lot so that I could race without too many problems during the race.”
