“I'm focused on stepping up on to the podium again”
After his father called him during the winter to propose him to be in charge of Team KR's program this year in the MotoGP championship, Kenny Roberts Jr has helped a lot the Banbury-based squad to evolve.
in the championship after twelve rounds, Kenny Jr has shown that his KR chassis is able to challenge for the front row of the grid and the podium at each race. The next step would be the victory and the entire team is working hard on it.
Kenny Roberts Jr has accepted to answer a few questions for Moto-Live.com, so that we could ask him about his plans for the end of this season and the next one.
The level of the Team KR has improved a lot since the beginning of this season. What has influenced more: the Honda engine, the Michelin tyres, your presence?...
Kenny Roberts Jr: "The whole team has worked extremely hard to get to the current position to be holding top five finishes over the last few races. The whole combination of Honda engines with Michelin tires and the expertise within Team Roberts has helped attribute our run of success."
How would you value your level today? What do you lack to challenge the leaders?
KR: "My level today is the same as always and I always give 100%. The lack of factory parts and not having a second rider to help develop the bike is always going to be a disadvantage. We hope to be able to find the necessary sponsorship to be able to start next year on an even par with the factory teams and then I believe we will be fighting at the very front."
In this weekend you're racing at Sepang, then four GP still have to be raced.
Which one should suit your bike better?
KR: "With Honda, Michelin and the team, all remaining races suit the bike."
Do you plan to stay with the team next year?
KR: "I have no other plans. Let's see where the team is going in 07. We are looking for sponsorship, so let's see where we are in the near future."
Do you know if the team will be able to get a second rider next year?
KR: "Again, it all depends on the level of sponsorship. I hope so and hope that potential sponsors see what we have been capable of this year and step forward."
Will the Team KR be the last challenge of your career or has this given you the will to do more?
KR: "All really depends on the team circumstances next year. Right now I'm focused on keeping the run of good results coming and hopefully stepping up on to the podium again real soon."
