Sepang : 250cc - Day 2
This morning, Jorge Lorenzo took first place from a 250cc practice session cut short by rain.
The Spaniard was the only rider to go faster than 2'08, ahead of Hiroshi Aoyama, Andrea Dovizioso, Alex de Angelis and Roberto Locatelli.
Angelis was the only rider out at the end of the practice, with lightning crashing and the track barely rideable. Yesterday's fastest rider, Hector Barbera dropped down to sixth, ahead of Anthony West, Aleix Espargaro and Repsol Honda riders Shuhei Aoyama and Martin Cardenas.
The torrential rain experienced at the Sepang Circuit in the middle of the 250cc practice session led to the delay and eventual cancellation of the planned session to decide tomorrow's grid. Race Direction made the decision based on safety, and then took the unprecedented step of agreeing on the starting positions using the first qualifying practice times.
The official statement from Race Direction was released at 4.
30pm local time, and reads as follows: "After inspections at various locations around the circuit, Race Direction have decided to cancel both the MotoGP Qualifying Practice and the 250cc second Qualifying Practice due to safety reasons created by the earlier rainstorms. The grid for 250cc will be formed according to the first Qualifying Practice, and all those riders who did not provisionally qualify for the race will be allowed to start."
