And Sacchetti is 16th after a busy opening day in Supertock
In what was a largely close and competitive qualifying session for the would-be Superpole qualifiers, with only 1.7 seconds covering the top 16 riders, and less than a second covering third to 16th, Regis Laconi
(PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) was the quickest of the three team riders at the new look 4.555km Assen circuit.
He ended the single hour of qualifying in 11th place on the time sheets. Chris Walker (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) was only two places behind, and only a single provisional grid slot behind him was Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse).
The new circuit layout proved to be a leveller of performance on day one, with improvements expected in overall lap times on day two, if the threatening rains stay away from the unpredictable Circuit van Drenthe.
Régis Laconi (11th - 1'40.796): "I am OK even if I suffered at some points with vibration from the machine. We cured that and made good progress and I was happy with my speed for most of the session. I was in a good position for most of it so I am quite happy that we can make further improvements tomorrow."
Chris Walker (13th - 1'40.848): "The times are quite close but I was experiencing a few problems with chatter today and the team worked very hard to improve it. We still have some things to try tomorrow but so far, things could be worse. The main thing to work on right now is entry into fast corners, and as always the engines are strong, that's never an issue."
Fonsi Nieto (14th - 1'41.001): "I only got to set my fast lap on a front tyre which had done around 25 laps, so I know that I could have made improvements if I had a newer tyre on. I think the new track is not so bad, and I have no problem with it.
Denis Sacchetti (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) had a tough first qualifying session to contend with at Assen, with gearbox and drive chain problems hampering a hectic first day. He is hoping for the dry track conditions to continue, to allow him to make set-up improvements, in conjunction with the PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse team technicians.
The cloudy weather saw occasional tiny spots of rain fall on the cool track as the fastest lap was set by Claudio Corti, with a 1'44.243.
Danis Sacchetti (16th - 1'46.569): "I had some problems today. The gear selector was broken and also a chain, during the same session. For my part, I made a mistake with the choice of the gearing but I hope for better tomorrow. This is a wonderful track and I want to make a good race because I know that with this bike and in this team it is more than possible."
