In Phillip Island Race 2
In their debut race in the highly competitive World Superbike Championship, Team Stiggy Racing Honda's Leon Haslam managed to take a superb 3rd place in the second WSBK race at Phillip Island yesterday.
After riding strongly in race 1, finishing
in 6th place, Leon managed put in an even more spectacular performance in the second race, to take a superb third place on the podium.
“The first race was really good. The bike was working well and I got into a good rhythm. I was up to 4th place on the first lap and had some really good battles throughout the race. On the last lap, whilst in 6th place, I passed Jonathan Rea (Honda) but was unable to keep him behind me. So I finished 6th, which was a good start to the day for us”, commented the Briton. “I'm over the moon today for our great result! It's our first time out there racing and to be able to bring home a podium finish is just fantastic! The team and I have made good progress and although we still have more to come, the bike and the team are obviously just great. We managed improve the bike a bit from race 1 to race 2 and I could fight my way up to the front guys. We definitely know in which direction to continue in the next round in Qatar.”
“To finish on the podium in our first ever World Superbike race is fantastic and like a dream come true”, declared Team Manager Johan Stigefelt. “This championship is very competitive and this result is tremendous and a great reward for all the hard work the team have put in over the last few months.
I feel sorry for Roby today because he was unlucky to get hit two times! But today, we will put that behind us and allow ourselves a little celebration because of Leon's great result.”
